This is the plank position in yoga. It's great for toning and strengthening the abs. The side plank does the same for the waist. You only need to do these three times a week or so. I never do sit ups or crunches. They bulk up the waist if you keep doing them, and give you too much of a six-pack cancelling out the effect of hours of quite painful corset training. We want ) ( not ! !.
