Ghetto Fabulous

Amber Rose and lil Kim wannabe, rapper Nicky Minaj, looking ghetto as hell!

Love, love, love Diana Ross' iconic seventies style in the 1975 movie Mahogany. House of Makeda is all about the seventies.

How to Keep a Man by Coco

Here's rapper Ice-T's wife Coco's advice on how to keep a man......

How do I keep a man? Well, I can only speak from experience because I'm not a doctor, just a woman that knows what she wants. To lay out my history with Ice, we have been married for 8 years and still going strong. We met in California on a movie set and have been inseparable ever since. Now we live in NY and at the moment we don't have any kids together. Everybody says relationships get boring, but it doesn't have to be that way, its entirely up to the both of you. As for me, I totally remember the feeling when I first fell in love with Ice.
The conversations, the kissing, the touching, the joking, the politeness, the feeling of always wanting to be near each other. Take that reminiscing and apply it to where your relationship is now. It is important to rekindle the moments.

I always like our "Date Nights". Always set aside a day out of each week and do something fun together and then end the night in love making or just plain HOT SEX! Ice and I also like Sundays, that's our "Movie Night" where I get cute for him and he appreciates the effort (men do notice..they're just not always verbal).

Ice and I work all day together on the set of his show "Law and Order", because I have an office there. But as soon as we get home, I'll change into a skimpy outfit like booty shorts and heels because it changes the mood from being business oriented. LADIES & GENTLEMEN...the most IMPORTANT advice I can give is to make sure you listen to one another!!!!! TALK A LOT!! I think the reason that Ice and I have made it in the celebrity world for so long is because we constantly communicate. Remember, relationships will always have those bad moments and it won't be rosy all the time. You have to be strong for one another and don't chicken out when you come to a bump in the road.

It may seem a little old fashioned but here are some pointers that you can do to cater to your man:
  • Make him a cold drink
  • Cook him his favorite food
  • Give him a body rub
  • Dress in his favorite outfit or item
  • Draw him a bath
  • Watch all his favorite shows for a night
  • Play video games with him
  • And finally, kiss or lick his feet. Hehe- LOL. - very optional

Until my next thought....

That licking his feet thing better be optional!

Reverse Crunches

Reverse crunches are the only kind of crunches I do. They strengthen your abs without overdoing the six pack and focus especially on the lower abs which are the hardest part to get in shape once you've had a baby. You lie on your back, legs stretched out in front of you and then bend your knees up in to your stomach lifting your hips off the floor as you do that, then return legs to starting position. Repeat 15-20 times.

Princess RiRi

Looking fly as ever..... Love the blue.

Teyana Taylor

I love teenage socialite, stylist, designer, rapper, singer, choreographer extraordinaire Teyana Taylor. She is too cool for school.

Coco Chanel

Original mama of fashion, the legendary Coco Chanel said.....

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

A woman has the age she deserves.

A women who doesn't wear perfume has no future.

As long as you know men are like children, you know everything!

Don't spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.

Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress.

Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.

Elegance is refusal.

Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.

Fashion is made to become unfashionable.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.

I love Coco Chanel's attitude!

L'Wren Scott

I love former stylist L'Wren Scott super chic, sexy yet understated designs with a rock and roll edge.

Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah, legendary rapper and actress is a beautiful curvier woman who shows that you don't have to be a size 6. As long as you eat right and exercise you can be in better shape than the size 2's of the world.

Johnny Mad Dog

I'm watching a bad ass Liberian movie at the moment called Johnny Mad Dog. It's about child soldiers in Liberia. No offence but if Liberians can make these kind of movies, we Nigerians should be able to do better. We're meant to be the giants of Africa.

Solange Knowles' buzz cut

This is what Beyonce's quirky, intelligent sister had to say to those making noise cos she took her lace front wig off and cut her hair;

Go Solo! Tell it!

My girls

Amber Rose and Rihanna are the truth! No breast or butt implants, no nose jobs, no weave just natural beauty and ridiculous swag. I think they have the same stylist. Rihanna's going to be in Vogue Italia soon.

The Future

Makeda is a lifestyle, from womenswear, menswear, children's wear, mama's wear, accessories, for the home, leather, jewellry and very soon an all natural cosmetics line starting with just one product that's currently being mixed up in my magic lab and a simple, earthy mineral makeup range. We do yoga, pilates, dance African style for the world... And music. It's crazy in here. It's a movement and it's African.

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is the most stylish woman the White House has ever seen. I love how she boldly shows off her toned arms and banging body no matter what the haters say. Obama is so proud of her. She puts even Jackie O to shame.

Recession proof.

The House of Makeda is a recession proof company.

3 boyz from my hood.....

Seun Kuti is Fela's son whom I've talked about before. He makes contemporary afrobeat.

Ayetoro is an amazing jazz pianist that I collaborate with and he's also a filmaker. We're supposed to be working on a film together in Ghana.

Shank is a dope ragga inspired Nigerian artist. He sang "Julie." Everyone here knows him!

Uju is one the faces of Makeda. She's about 6ft tall, dark skinned and stunning with great bone structure. When she first came in to see me, I did'nt realise how great she was till I looked at the pictures I took of her later. Very photogenic. And very intuitive, when I think of her, she calls me. I lost my phones and was wondering how i'd get in touch with her and she found my new number and just called me. I can't till you all see our banging ad campaign!

Size 0.

Is it really true that extremely skinny size 0 models look best in clothes? I'm not convinced. Who is selling us these lies? Men that don't like women, i bet. Give me a size 4 girl with some curves instead. This is an African label. Check out smouldering Afro-Brazilian Adriana Lima below.

Marching to the beat of my own drum!!! Living life my way.......

The Little Black Book of Style

The Little Black Book of Style by Marie Claire Fashion Editor Nina Garcia is a great little book with lots of style wisdom.

Mulberry Roxanne

One of my favourite bags is the Roxanne by Mulberry. Tan. It took a bit of getting used to with all the buckles and fastenings but it's great on a flight. Easy access to travel documents. Oooh, I'm going to London and New York soon, can't wait!

Exercise ball

I love using an exercise ball for Pilates and other core strengthening and full body workouts. I sit on one at my desk as the lady above is doing for toning my precious waist!

Dressing for your body type...

It’s time to embrace our bodies, curves, flaws, and all. When it comes to fashion, there is no ideal shape. All body types have their own unique attributes, and with style and clothing, knowing how to dress for your body type will let you have fun with your wardrobe so that you can flatter your body shape and bring out your best features.

Whether you’re looking for appropriate clothing for special occasions, workwear, or casual clothes and outdoor clothing, a wide range of options will allow you to find the best clothes when dressing for your body type.

Round or Apple-Shaped

If you have a round or apple-shaped body type you will tend to have heavier breasts, narrower hips, and slimmer legs.

  • Show off your legs! Wear an A-line skirt to add emphasis to your waistline
  • With tops, choose turtlenecks, boatnecks, or shirts with collars. Knits and woven stretch fabrics are best for your body type
  • The best jeans for your body type are ones with front and back pockets. These will help disguise a rounder middle area while defining your curves. But avoid pants with pleats, and choose a flatter front instead

Try to avoid tops with puffy sleeves, or overly baggy clothing. Slim skirts and tight clothes should also be avoided, since they will only emphasize a slimmer lower body half and create the illusion of imbalance.

The Pear Shape

Dressing pear shaped women involves balancing a slender neck, narrow shoulders, and a small bust with a shapely waist, generous hips, and full thighs. Your best assets are your waistline, delicate upper body, shoulders and arms, so try to accentuate these features when dressing for your body type.

  • Look for strapless or sleeveless dresses to play up the arms and shoulders. Or look for empire waistlines and dresses that begin to flare at the hips
  • Choose flowing fabrics, especially when it comes to pants, and remember that straight skirts are ideal for your body shape
  • Wear semi-fitted tops with square or cowl necklines to broaden narrow shoulders

Avoid tops that are too loose or too tight and make you seem out of proportion. When looking for a blazer or jacket, make sure the bottom does not meet the widest part of your hips. Lastly, avoid straight dresses that tend to tighten at the hips; this will only accentuate them.

The Straight Body

The straight body type features an upper and lower body half that are equal in width. If you gained a few pounds, they would most likely be equally distributed throughout the body, instead of going straight to your curves.

  • Choose tops with necklines that fall below the collarbone to elongate the upper body and neck
  • Look for a longer suit jacket that will help lengthen the torso
  • Skirts and pants with details can broaden the lower half of the body, while shirts with pockets on the bustline will emphasize the area

Try to avoid belts or pleated fabrics at the waistline. These can make the area look thick instead of narrowing the waist.

General Tips

For women with lots of curves, shapely legs, and a defined waist, accentuate an hourglass figure by wearing belts or choosing tops and bottoms with defined waistlines.

Petite women should avoid a cropped pant, and choose ones with a long and straight cut that will cover shoes to lengthen the legs.

Remember that these rules are not written in stone, but can provide you with some helpful tips on how to dress different body types. The best rule to stick to is finding what flatters not only your body shape and size, but your style too. While darker colors tend to be the most slimming, a fun accessory can add life to any outfit, regardless of your body type.

Lauryn Hill

I miss Lauryn Hill's music. For a while I did'nt understand what happened to the gorgeous Lauryn but I totally get it now why she ran off with that rasta and disappeared from the shady world of entertainment.
